Ukiah CA, 2008-06-24
Due
to the fires caused by Friday nights lightening storm,
Ukiah Speedway must cancel its race scheduled for
Saturday June 28th. As the thick smoke covers the
Mendocino skies, Ukiah Speedway and the Redwood Empire
Fairgrounds has transformed into a fire camp.
The
track promoter was informed late Saturday night, as his
motocross riders raced under the lights, there was a
possibility of the invasion of over 600 fire fighters
and crew taking over the pit area, racetrack, and
various other parts of the fairgrounds.
As the
smoke thickened it was apparent the racetrack area would be
much needed. Starting Monday the trucks rolled in with camping
gear, portable bathrooms, and a complete kitchen. The fire
camp is expected to be up and functioning no later than
Wednesday.
The All
Star Shoot Out between the North State Challenge Series and
Westcar Late Models will be rescheduled for a later date to be
determined. Modifieds, Bombers, Bonus Bombers, and
Bandoleros
will resume racing on July 4th & 5th, with fireworks to
follow.
Ukiah
Speedway invites everyone to come to an open practice on
Thursday July 3rd. Grandstands will be open free to the
public. Pit gates open at 3:00pm with practice from
4:00pm-8:00pm. Friday July 4th will feature qualifying
extended heat races and the first of two 50 lap main events
for the Modifieds division paying $1000 to win with $200 to
start.
Saturday
July 5th will complete the two day show with complete extended
main events with the second of two for the Modified division
also featuring $1000 to win and $200 to start.
Grandstand
gates open 4:30pm both nights, with racing at 6:30pm. For

But wait; there is more than just the fast paced action of
auto racing, there is also the sparkle and dazzle of the
fireworks presented by Pyro Spectacular. Many local businesses
have joined together with the help of John Graff to make the
fireworks possible.
Over 200
high flying bright colored fireworks will hit the sky.
North State Challenge Series resumes racing July 19th at
Shasta Raceway Park located in Anderson, CA. For more
