Ukiah CA,
2008-05-10 –
Last Saturday night, the Ukiah Speedway featured our own
Modifieds, Bonus Bombers, Bombers, and Bandoleros, with
Modified and Bomber main events extended to 40 laps.
The Modified fast time of 13.265s was set by Derrick
Crayford from
Windsor.
It was Darrin Knight from Kelseyville who claimed and held an
early lead all the way to win the main event.
Dave Land Sr. set the Bonus Bomber fast time of 14.709s.
Jason McLean won both the heat race and the main event.
The Bomber fast time of 15.449s was set by Ron Duke from
Redwood Valley. Dominating the racing events, Cory Carlson of
Redwood
Valley
won the trophy dash, his heat race, and the main event.
The Bandoleros was a clean sweep by Kyle Tellstrom from
Ukiah setting the fast time of 15.259s and winning all of the
events.
Modifieds
Denny Cashada and Brett Barney led the Modified field to
the start of the main event. Cashada held the lead while
Darrin Knight took second. In lap two, Drew Foster and Derrick
Crayford got together in turn four and spun Foster causing a
caution.
Cashada and Knight led the restart and Knight quickly took
the lead. Thomas Wright, who had quickly made his way from the
back to fourth, continued past Dustin DeRosier for third, and
then Cashada for second.
Crayford, Terry McIntire, and DeRosier had just shuttled
Cashada on back to take third through fifth, when Foster got
loose in lap eight coming out of turn four and got tangled
with Barney for the last caution. Both were forced to retire.
Knight and Wright led them to the restart, and the field
started to string out. In lap 16, McIntire made it past
Crayford for third. It would stay that way to the end. Knight
finished first, followed by Wright, McIntire, Crayford, and
DeRosier. DeRosier won the trophy dash and his heat race.
Bonus Bombers
The Bonus Bomber field was led to the green flag by Mike
Marcum and Dave Land Sr. The start was uneven and was called
back. The second try was good and Land held the outside lead
over Marcum with
Jason McLean and Randy Portlock close behind. In lap two,
Johnny Small spun in turn one causing a yellow.
Land and Marcum led the restart and Land kept the lead.
McLean overtook Marcum for second and started a long challenge
for the lead. In lap 12, McLean and Land touched and Land spun
in turn three for the last caution.
McLean and Marcum led them to the green, and both would
battle hard for the lead. Seven laps later,
McLean
finally nosed out front and kept it all the way to the
checkers. Marcum came in second, followed by Land, Portlock,
and Small.
Bombers
The Bomber main event started with a field of 13 cars led
to the green flag by Darren Groves and Jimmy Sturges. Sturges
took the lead as Tim Buzzard and Manya Tenney moved past
Groves. In lap four, Buzzard took the lead from Sturges and he
was shuffled back by Groves and Crayford, pushing Cory Carlson
and Tenney with him.
Ron Duke wove his way past
Groves into
third and Tenney was trying to follow when, in lap seven, Duke
suffered a flat causing the first caution. He made a quick pit
visit to fix it.
Buzzard and Crayford led the restart but, one lap later,
Bradley Brackett, Duke, and Carlson got tangled up 3-wide in
turn three for another caution.
Buzzard and Crayford restarted them again and they battled
for the lead for six laps. Tenney finally put Buzzard back
into third followed by Carlson, Terry Pittman, and Duke. This
order was maintained for another 15 laps.
In lap 31, Duke tangled with the leader Crayford in turn
three for another yellow. Duke was black-flagged for
unsportsmanlike conduct. Both Carlson and Brackett would also
suffer the wall with their own mechanical difficulties.
Carlson and Tenney finally got them going again. Carlson
claimed the lead and Pittman put Tenney back to third. In lap
36, Crayford made it by Buzzard for fourth.
At the wire, it was Carlson, followed by Pittman, Tenney,
Crayford, and Buzzard. Buzzard won the other heat race.
